My prescription for my right eye was nearly -7, and my left eye wasn’t too much better. I had eye surgery done here on Thursday 24 March 2011 (with more work done on my right eye, just to hedge bets for safety). Immediately my eyes were a little better, and by the end of the weekend they were at least half better. By the end of March (one week after surgery) I was good to drive, even at night, as my vision was already close to 20/20 (using both eyes). From my friends who had similar procedures, I was expecting much more pain, sensitivity to light, and dry eyes. Although to be fair, I only slept and ate the couple of days following the surgery, and spent most of the time in my room, with a humidifier, and my eyes closed. On Thursday itself, when I left my room to eat, my eyes teared up a lot. That first night, I woke up in the middle of the night because of some pain, but I just went back to sleep. They told me, when I saw them the next day, that my tears were a reaction to dry eyes, and I should have used the artifical tears I had. However, after Thursday I had no problems at all, and so I never used the pain medication or artifical tears after the surgery time itself [Just to note, my two fellow patients who had the same surgery when I did, had a lot of pain the first two days, but were fine after that. They also said they never had the opportunity to get the rest they needed (apparently they never can, because they each have four kids)]. In case you’re wondering how I picked this place: I’ve had a number of friends over the years that had lasik, and my latest friend got lasek (e-lasik), but I was looking for a place that does PRK… and was happy to find out that this place, right next to UTD, specializes in it entirely. I asked my lasek friend about it, because I knew he did a lot of research on eye surgery options in Dallas, before getting lasek done at Carter. He was looking for the surgeons with the best reputations, and had the latest, greatest machines to do the work. From his research, he told me both Carter and Mazaheri were among the top five, and he would recommend either one. The only other person I talked to works for Dr. Mazaheri: Dr. Naz (to whom I am grateful for being a very patient doctor), told me her own daughter went here to get this surgery.
